Hypervisor: operator interface in the domain of surveillance

A new generation of intelligent and modular supervision systems

The Hypervisor project was the opportunity for Thales 3S to set up an innovative and unified offer in the field of supervision: a control system connected to a network of in field sensors which transmit real time information on the operating status of a critical system. This technology is used in particular to supervise the transport of goods, people, energy, or to control the security of sensitive sites. The operator must be able to read and interpret this information without error and react quickly according to predetermined procedures. The interface  centralizes data from different sources and informs the operator seamlessly and consistently.

For this consultancy and guidance mission in the design and creation of the Human Machine Interface Hypervisor, Attoma conducted observational field work. This preliminary study identified an operational charter outlining the basic principles at work in the interface: functional behaviors, information architecture on the screens, visual formatting. A prototype interface was also designed as an interactive demo illustrating a system use case.

The project received a "star" from the ACPI Design Observer for its innovative user centric approach and has been nominated in the "safety & security" category at the 2011 IIID Awards.
